Our Story
A Practice Built Around People, Not Cases
Sahaja Counsel was established in Kuala Lumpur with one purpose: to offer families a calmer, clearer experience of legal process during times that are already difficult.
Back to HomeWho We Are
The Thinking Behind Sahaja Counsel
Sahaja Counsel grew from a straightforward observation: families seeking legal help are often dealing with one of the most disorienting periods of their lives. The legal system can feel cold and transactional at exactly the moment when what people need is patience and clarity.
We began our work in Kuala Lumpur knowing that family law requires a different kind of attention. Divorce, custody arrangements, and maintenance matters are not purely legal events — they touch how people live, how children are raised, and how households are rebuilt. Our practice was designed from the outset with that in mind.
Over the years we have sat across from many families at different stages of difficulty. Some arrive with a clear direction already in mind. Others are simply trying to understand what their options are. We take both just as seriously.
Our Mission
To offer family legal support that treats each matter with the seriousness and sensitivity it deserves — not as a file to be processed, but as a family to be helped.
Our Approach
We listen before we advise. We explain options without steering decisions. We keep costs transparent and communication regular throughout every matter.
Our Values
Discretion, fairness, and respect — for our clients, for the other parties, and for the process itself. We do not see conflict as the default.
The People
Who You Will Work With
Our small, focused team means you speak with the same people throughout your matter — not a different voice each time.

Called to the Malaysian Bar with over fourteen years of family law practice, Nurul Ain leads client consultations and guides the most complex matters personally.
Rajan s/o Krishnan

Siti Widad binti Hamid

Our Standards
How We Work
The way we handle a family matter reflects the same care we would want if the situation were our own.
Malaysian Bar Membership
All solicitors at Sahaja Counsel are members in good standing of the Malaysian Bar, and comply with the Legal Profession Act 1976.
Client Confidentiality
We observe strict legal professional privilege. Every communication, document, and disclosure is protected without exception.
Clear Fee Agreements
Before any work begins, you receive a written outline of fees and scope. No surprise charges — every adjustment is discussed openly first.
Child Welfare Protocol
Where children are part of a matter, we follow a child-centred approach aligned with the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 and Malaysian court welfare standards.
Mediation-First Orientation
We explore negotiated and mediated outcomes wherever possible. Court proceedings are sometimes necessary, but we do not treat them as the only path.
Data Protection Compliance
Client data is stored and handled in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA). We do not share personal information with third parties without consent.
Family Law in Malaysia
Experienced Guidance Through Every Stage of a Family Matter
Family law proceedings in Malaysia are governed primarily by the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 for civil marriages, and separate legislation for matters involving Islamic family law. Navigating these frameworks requires familiarity not only with the legislation itself but with the courts, the filing procedures, and the practical realities of how matters are heard in Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding region.
At Sahaja Counsel, our work spans consultations for those who are still at the stage of weighing their options, through to active representation in custody and maintenance proceedings. We understand that a family matter rarely resolves quickly, and that the period of uncertainty can be just as difficult as any hearing. Our role includes keeping clients informed, reducing paperwork anxiety, and helping maintain focus on what matters most — a fair and workable outcome for everyone involved.
Kuala Lumpur families dealing with divorce, child custody arrangements, access schedules, and spousal or child maintenance orders find in us a team that treats each situation as specific to the people involved, not as a template to be filled in. Our practice remains small by choice, so that the attention we offer stays meaningful.
